11th May - Winners of
the London & SE 7's Plate
19th Feb
Dorking U-15 40 v Guildford
U-15 29
Kicking off just before the
senior side, the U-15's put in what can only be described as a
mixed performance, against a determined Guildford side. Playing
on what many consider the best pitch at the Big Field, Dorking
ran in two early tries. Conversions were missed, as they were
throughout the game! An area where we need to improve.
After their blistering start,
if Dorking thought they were in for an easy day, they were in
for a shock. Guildford re-grouped and started competing at the
breakdown and provided useful ball for their two very fast
wingers. With Dorking having such a large pool of players at
this age group, constant changes didn't help the shape of the
team but playing time for the whole squad is essential and
necessary for overall improvement. In a see saw match Dorking
pulled away in the first half, only to be pegged back to 25 -
19. The forwards then started to dominate and relatively new
girl Fern Carter gave an outstanding display in the loose. This
allowed the team to stretch their lead through captain Millie
Moore and Clara Sage. To their credit, a tiring Guildford came
back towards the end to make the score 40 - 29.
This maintains Dorking's 100%
league record but the coaches of the team were not entirely
happy with the team performance and with tough games coming up
during the next two weeks, there will need to be an
improvement!
15th Jan 08 Mitcham Bulls U-15 girls 10 v Dorking U-15 girls 32
Dorking maintained their 100%
record in the league after a hard fought victory at Mitcham. The
pitch was probably not playable but after some consultation between
the coaches, the game went ahead. We were also a little surprised
that contested scrums were allowed in the first half. This obviously
suited the much heavier Mitcham pack and we didn't win a lot of ball
from the scrum. Still a good lesson for those who contested the
scrummage for the first time.
This was the strongest squad we
have assembled this season. Even allowing for a few call off's we
managed to take a squad of 18 for the away match. This week we
welcomed Elle Godfrey, who has joined the club for the rest of the
season. Elle has represented Surrey and the South of England.
She immediately fitted into the team and played very well. Again the
marauding forwards laid the platform for the rapid backs to exploit
several overlaps. In terrible conditions the forwards often out
rucked and out mauled the larger opposition. This provided scrum
half Millie Moore with ample ball to release the backs. On occasions
it was like running through quicksand but the girls adapted to the
conditions and thoroughly deserved their victory
Try scorers on the day were, Millie
(2) Beth Rudd (2) Elle Clark and Clara Sage. Millie had one
conversion!
9th Dec Dorking U15 22. v 20 against Beckenham/Old Alleynians Dorking U15’s Girls looked to continue their strong form against Beckenham/Southwark Tigers RFC last Sunday. Cold and wet conditions were going to hamper the ambitions of Dorking's expansive play, and against much larger opposition it was going to be a tough ask. The early exchanges where being convincingly won by the opposition and their two early tries delivered a body blow to Dorking. A few encouraging words and some strong leadership from Captain Millie Moore, and a strong performance from Hannah Bennett galvanised the team. The introduction of Rosie Letheridge led to the first try, a strong run from Beth Rudd from the ensuing kick off and a lovely pass out of contact to Rosie who ran half the length of the field to score Dorking’s one of three first half try’s. Continued pressure and strong team play led to another quick score. A rallied Beckenham/Southwark Tigers team tested the Dorking defence, strong tackling and weather conditions led to Beckenham/Southwark Tigers mistakes and when Dorking cleared their lines from a long kick from Lucy Binns and smart chase from China McCarthy gave Dorking the ball in a good position from which they capitalised putting Lucy over to score from which she duly converted. The second half was a much tighter affair each team having equal amounts of possession and opportunities, some smart cover defence from the backs and especially China kept Beckenham/Southwark Tigers for much of the second half. A smartly taken try from Millie Moore was Dorking's last score of the game, two further trys from Beckenham/Southwark Tigers one effort down to sheer speed by one player ensured a tight and nervous end to the game. Strong tackling and a will to win saw Dorking past the finishing post by a margin of victory of two points. Final score Dorking 22 - 20 Beckenham/Southwark Tigers. A strong, committed and skilful performance saw Hannah Bennett awarded Player of the Match. 11th Nov
DORKING U-15 GIRLS 37 V WORTHING
U-15 GIRLS 7.
On a beautiful autumnal day at the
Big Field, Dorking junior girls entertained Worthing in a South East
League 2 match.
Straight from the kick off,
Dorking's forwards rampaged into the opponents half and released
quick ball for Millie Moore to score under the posts for Lucy Binns
to convert. A similar scenario occured from the ensuing kick
off. The home team through some excellent quick movement in the
backs, eventually released Sue Neuman to score in the corner. At 12
. 0 after only a few minutes, Dorking thought that this was going to
be an easy game. Worthing had other ideas. Playing with a strong
breeze behind them they started to kick the ball deep into Dorking's
half. After a concerted period of pressure and despite some resolute
defence, Worthing were eventually rewarded with a try, which was
converted. Worthing continued to use the kicking game as their best
form of attack but Dorking held out and honours were even for the
rest of the half.
After some positional rearranging,
Dorking started the second half with renewed vigour and took the
game to Worthing. Another try from Neuman and one from new girl
Rosie Williams stretched Dorking's lead to 22 . 7. Worthing were
having to defend wave after wave of Dorking pressure and too their
credit never gave up. As the Worthing team began to tire, Dorking
took advantage and ran in three further tries from China McCarthy
and two from Lydia Sinclair. This was Lydia's first game and the two
tries she scored were both from long range and the Worthing cover
simply couldn't cope with her undoubted speed.
A good result for Dorking against a
good opponents. The match was played in excellent spirit, a credit
to both teams.
The improvement in the team since
the start of the season is remarkable, which augurs well for the
rest of their league campaign.
14th October 07 - West Surrey Cluster U-15 girls 25 v Dorking U-15 girls 59. We were not sure what to expect on our visit to Cranleigh to play our first league game against a cluster of Guildford, Chobham and Cranleigh. Not only were we unaware of the standard of opposition, but for many this was their first encounter of competitive rugby for Dorking and we didn't know what to expect. With a very large squad to pick from it was hard to give everybody the necessary game time but all those who participated, played exceptionally well. With Millie Moore leading from the front, Dorking started at a great pace and within 5 minutes they were four tries ahead. Two scored by Millie and two by new girl Sian Lewis. The tackling and support play of all concerned was very impressive, as was the contribution of new and inexperienced girls. Further tries were scored by Millie, Katy Denham, Issy Thomas, Beth Rudd, Hannah McDonald, Immie Adshead and Sue Neuman, who also converted two This was an encouraging start with this group of players and both coaches see a bright future for this team. |
